Steve Pilgrim's "Be one per cent" (Thanx to Niels K.)

Weller in Bournemouth Echo, 2013, Southampton, a review.

PAUL WELLER hasn’t played Bournemouth since his Wake Up The Nation tour several years ago, so it was a pilgrimage to Southampton to see the Modfather in action. It’s been a good time for Paul of late with critical praise for new album Sonik Kicks and recent headlining turn at the Isle of Wight festival.
Perhaps it was this adulation that found Paul and his band in a comfortable and assured place on stage. The usual Weller fire was replaced by a feel-good vibe that saw the first 40 minutes coast along with assorted numbers such as Dragonfly, Going Places and an outing for The Style Council’s My Ever Changing Mood.

The Saints are back... A review by Shane Pinnegar.

Chris Bailey is revered around the world as a punk legend on the strength of The Saints scathing first three albums, released 1977 – 1978 and spawning such era-defining songs as I’m Stranded, Demolition Girl and Know Your Product.

That initial incarnation of the band imploded rapidly, and Bailey went on to create an enormous amount of music both under his own name, leading multiple line-ups of The Saints, and in collaboration with a myriad of different artists in a myriad of different styles.
He’s never revisited the coruscating punk aggression of that debut Saints album, but he remains the quintessential punk rock artist – he does what he wants, when he wants, and he cares little how he is viewed for doing so.  Take his most recent jaunt through Europe for almost two years playing with a French band, or his eccentric (to say the least) appearance on SBS TV show Rockwiz a few years ago for proof. Free David Byrne and Saint Vincent EP (Thanx to Stéphane)

David Byrne & St. Vincent Announce Release Of Brass Tactics EP

After the release of Love This Giant last year, we did a tour of North America and Australia that was like nothing we’ve ever done before—drums, keys and Annie and I supported by 8 choreographed brass players. We did the new material, but also a lot of recognizable songs, arranged for that group. The sound is incredible, and it’s a bit of a visual spectacle as well. We were pretty excited at how it turned out. The critical and audience response was great too! Touring a group that size with a fairly complex show is a big financial gulp, so it has taken us a while to collect enough offers in North America and Europe, but ow they are in and we kick off in a few weeks.
One of our business folks had the idea that we might offer a taste of what we’re up to—so we put together an EP to give folks a taste of what to expect. It has one song that didn’t make it on the record (a waltz featuring some lovely glass harmonica), a couple of energized remixes of some of the album tunes and two live tracks of the sort of more familiar material we do in the set. Did we say it’s FREE? We’re very excited at how this whole project came out so we want more folks to discover it. Download it below!

Sharon Jones News...

SHARON JONES & THE DAP-KINGS CANCEL ALBUM RELEASE AND TOURING FOR 2013

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings regret to announce that plans to tour and release their upcoming album in 2013 have been postponed. Give The People What They Want will NOT be released on Aug 6, 2013 as previously scheduled.

Sharon Jones has been diagnosed with stage-one bile duct cancer, which has fortunately been discovered early and has not spread. It is expected that the immediate proposed surgical solution will lead to a full recovery, but because of its invasive and complex nature, will necessitate a rather lengthy convalescence.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will be back before you know it, with a new release date and rescheduled tours worldwide.

Sharon would like her fans to know that she is anxious to get back on her feet, and that she is “down, but not out!”

“Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on. We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays. We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct. Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable!
I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover. I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!”

The very very strange packaging of Miles Kane Deluxe edition...

The very very strange packaging of the Miles Kane's deluxe edition LP! Bigger than a CD (you can't store it) with a very small tonguelet in paper very fragile. You have to be Origami Black belt seventh degree to put the cd in the box without tearing the whole pack. If you want to read the lyrics, so take a ladder and unfold the box. Or you can tear every postcard, it's possible and intended to be used this way but then you have an...empty box! How many designers did Sony need to do it?
